Texas Prison System

I want to start a Blog with answers and suggestions on how, we, as family and loved ones, of an offender,to help us find, options, plans, programs, grants, that are available to help an offender back into society.
The offenders that are let out of the Prison systems daily, have no where to really turn to and help with a plan to help them live a productive life. They cannot find jobs, due to their Felony record. Yes I agree that a portion of offenders with felonies are not able to fit into a productive and stabile life, but then again not all offenders deserve to have doors always slammed into their faces, some do deserve to have the chance to prove to them selves and to the system, that they can be responsible, and want to have the opportunity to work, have a home, take responsibility for their children and for their selves.
We as family, loved one and society have got to stand together and help to find a way to help them.
Programs, grants, jobs, there has to be a way we can find help for ourselves and for our sons and daughters.
STOP; let's ask ourselves, how many times have we been faced with a son or daughter, who is being released from the prison system, back to our homes, our lives, and all these rules that our sons and daughters must do as a part of their parole. Get a job, go to school, pay child support, get a car, get an apartment. How I ask, how? They have a felony, who wants to hire them, give them a loan, approve a lease on an apartment, who? And we, their familuies and loved ones, we already have enough on our plates, what can we do to help? And then we watch them go right back to doing what they did to get them sent to prison in the first place. We all give up. Well I don't want to be a part of that dead-end cycle anymore. We live in America and there has got to be a way. Don't wait to find help when they get home, let's work together to have those answers before they come home.
I want my son home, living a good simple, productive, and honest life. But the Prison system can not help, they have no answers when I ask them "what is available for my son, so he can get an education a job, anything" I always get the same answer, "there is nothing available." Well that's not true, there is help, but we have to act and act now, to seek out programs, grants, jobs, transportation, anything that we can do to help them and in return help ourselves too.

About Me

Teresa Moronko Guzman
Kemah, Texas, United States
My son, Travis Lindsey, has been a part of the Texas Prison System for nearly half his life. He's a good man, who has made bad choices. But I believe he and hundreds like him deserve a shot to be a part of society. The system does not allow that, they make it difficult. I want answers and help, to help him, others like him,to help me, us ,and we their families.
