TEXAS Grant Program
TEXAS Grant Program: "The Toward EXcellence, Access & Success (TEXAS) Grant Program provides grant money for academically-prepared eligible students to attend public and private nonprofit institutions of higher education in Texas.
To be eligible, you must:
Be a Texas resident.
Have graduated from a public or accredited private high school in Texas no earlier than fall 1998.
Have completed the recommended or advanced high school curriculum or its equivalent.
Have financial need.
Have applied for any available financial aid or assistance.
Be enrolled at least 3/4 time in an undergraduate degree or certificate program
Have not been convicted of a felony or crime involving a controlled substance.
How to apply:
Awards are made through the financial aid office of the college. If you are interested, contact the financial aid office to find out about deadlines and procedures.
How much can a student receive?
It depends on the number of credit hours you take and the type of institution you attend.
In general the amounts are $1,200 per semester for full-time university students; $470 per semester for full-time community college students; and $700 per semester for full-time technical college students.
This is not a one-time award. Students who continue in college and meet program academic standards can receive the awards for up to 150 credit hours or six years.
To meet academic standards, students must complete at least 75 percent of the hours taken in a previous semester and have at least an overall grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
